It’s been a full on year for Oatopia. We opened our Boxpark stall during our busiest period of festivals and events and by the end of the summer needed a bit of a break, or rather more importantly, need to get back to our fitness and training routines! We had some extra motivation to get fit because we had entered the Lanzarote half-marathon. Having just returned from the trip here is our race round-up…
The four of us arrive in Lanzarote and sigh a breathe of relief as we walk out of the airport because it is pleasantly warm. We were all relieved to escape the cold spreading fast over the UK. We had a day and a half to prepare for our run and seeing as that mean’t resting and carbo loading, we headed shamelessly straight to the pool!
The wind in Lanzarote can be notoriously strong, however on race morning we were in luck as it was relatively calm. Temperatures were warm though so we all made sure we were well hydrated before the start. After oats for brekkie we were ready to run! We stood alongside 1400 other runners on the start line. The gun went and we were off! The course was picturesque, taking in the coastline with sights of the islands volcanoes in the distance, and thank fully it wasn’t very hilly. Sophie was the first member of the team to cross the finish line in 1hr33, coming in 6th lady and in the top 50 overall! Next to finish was Tam in just over 2hrs, followed not long after by Fi and Yas.
With all finished it was time to relax before exploring some more of the island!
